  • primary counterpose for backbends

  • open spine, hamstrings, hips

  • lunar/cool, balancing, introspective

 

Hip Openers

PURPOSES :

  • increases mobility in the pelvis for psycho-physical-spiritual well-being

  • keeps padmasana alive & sitting lotus pose for meditation requires constant hip openings

  • allows greater mobility of the spine (for backbends and twists) and hamstrings (for forward bends)

  • solar hip openers (within standing poses) are solar and virya in nature

  • lunar hip openers (seated hip openers) can be lunar in nature (can be lunar in nature -depend- ing on the flexibility of the yogini)
